Learning to reckon with our childhoods and how they continue to affect our lives is a lifelong process for many of us. As an attachment-focused therapist, I believe that our early relationships inform much of how we view the world and other people. Although there is nothing we can do to rewrite the past, in a therapeutic relationship we can develop new attachments and ways of being in connection to others that can be life-changing.
My name is Eliza and I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate working with adults (ages 18+) with a history of childhood trauma. My aim is to walk alongside my clients as they untangle early experiences and learn new ways of connecting with others and moving through life. I am EMDR-trained and IFS-informed, and I draw from a number of psychodynamic approaches to help my clients reconcile past trauma and develop more secure relationships. I bring a warm, open, and gentle manner to my sessions. I may be a good fit for you if you:
are struggling to unlearn behaviors and ways of being in relationship that you’ve carried since childhood;
are finally ready to face difficult or traumatic things from your childhood, even if it’s really scary;
have difficulty connecting with your body due to trauma;
need help breaking patterns of generational trauma as a parent or guardian; or
are a member of a group that has been historically or is currently oppressed by the powers that be, including the LGBTQIA+, BIPOC, and neurodivergent communities.
As a cisgender, heterosexual, White woman, I hold immense privilege in our society. I am continually learning how to use my privilege to help dismantle the systems of oppression that benefit people who look and identify like me. I believe trauma-informed, culturally-informed therapy can be a tool for social justice, or a tool for harm. I commit to my clients that I will be a safe person to whom to bring experiences of marginalization, prejudice, and oppression—and in return I ask that they be courageous enough to do so, even when I am the one who has harmed them.
A little bit about me: I am a proud Star Trek nerd; I love cats, dogs, and all creatures big and small; and I’m lucky enough to be part of a neuro-spicy, gender-expansive family of my own creation.
Please reach out for a free 15-minute consultation call or video if you think we might be a good fit. I hope we do great work together.
