Bryan Michalowski

I am a Black, Queer, and Neurodivergent therapist transitioning from residential mental health therapy to outpatient therapy. If you feel your story is complex, I want to hear about it. I want to hear about your "Puzzle of Life". Ironically, due to my own nuerodivergence, I'm terrible at physical puzzles and thrive with mental ones.

Here are a few things you can expect from me:

First, is that I'm here to listen. That's how therapeutic connections are forged and fortified. That's one of the most important pieces of healing, having a connection with your therapist. Trusting them to support you when few others will.

Second, is that I'm very inquisitive. After listening, I ask questions. With the goal of understanding you, the main character in this story. People in my everyday life are constantly telling me "that's a good question" and I think you'll feel the same. What does "good" mean here? Questions that encourage you to think critically about all the pieces in your life and how they fit together (and how they don't). Questions that pick up on details that you may not have even noticed.

Third, you can expect us to engage in a collaborative dialogue. We might laugh along the way and you might experience some tears. But that means you're growing and in the process of figuring your shit out. (To be fair, I have my own shit to figure out too!)

The end goal? To build your next chapter in life. I aim to provide you the tools (and help you uncover the ones you already have) to advocate for yourself and to walk towards your emotions, not away from them. (Maybe you'll even run towards them, but let's start slow).

What do I expect? I expect your story will consist of sadness, indifference, confusion, denial, self-acceptance, and all the little footnotes in between. I expect to provide therapy from many different lenses: anti-racist and anti-oppressive, intersectional, queer and gender-affirming, and relationship-based. I expect this from myself because these are my personal values as well. I want you to be able to feel and experience those values in our sessions. If you don't, then I encourage you to advocate for yourself: Let me know if I'm fucking up and I will own it and recommit to learning and developing my skillset.

Speaking of skillsets, my specialities are: LGBTQIA+, BIPOC, neurodivergent, depression, anxiety, borderline, schizophrenia, bipolar, trauma, and relationships. I have experience in many therapeutic modalities, including Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Person-Centered Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness/Grounding techniques, Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT), Somatic Lens, and Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT). I am actively working towards certification for DBT and I have experience and continued commitment to learning neurodivergent-friendly and anti-racist DBT skills. I am also actively pursuing training to become certified as an autism spectrum disorder clinical specialist.

In my personal life, I enjoy writing poetry (and eye-catching bios like this one), reading sci-fi and memoirs, watching movies and TV, nature walks, art galleries, antique shops, and coffee shops.

If you have even have a small part of you that wants to start healing, call and schedule a free 15 minute consultation and we'll start the next chapter together.
