How We Work

Our approach

Equine therapy is used alongside traditional therapy, not instead of it. Every session is led by your therapist together with Terry Kozak, our equine specialist partner at You Are Herd.

Equine-Assisted Therapy (EAT)

Horses become partners in the process, helping you access emotions and create change.

Experiential Learning

Insight comes through doing, not just talking, which can reach what words miss.

Trauma-Informed Care

A safe, paced approach grounded in the realities of trauma recovery.

Reflection and Integration

Guided processing connects what happens with the horses to your goals and daily life.

Questions about equine therapy

No. Being in relationship with horses is about you, not the horses — no prior experience is needed.
No. All of the work in an equine session happens on the ground.
That's okay — plenty of people feel nervous around horses at first. You're never forced to do anything, and even just being in their presence, at a distance, can open up a powerful conversation with your therapist.
Horses are prey animals, so fear is familiar to them. If a horse is hesitant with you, that's useful information — your equine specialist can help you find ways to show up that feel safer and more inviting to them.
Just like in human relationships, we set clear boundaries around what's okay. Your equine specialist will walk you through basic safety and how to read a horse's body language before you begin.
No — equine therapy isn't only for trauma or PTSD. It's appropriate for a wide range of concerns, since connection is something we and horses both rely on.
There's almost always a way to make it work safely and comfortably — even just staying outside the fence and observing counts. Tell your therapist what you're comfortable with and we'll get creative.
