Humans are pretty cool. We can watch and rewatch our favorite movies, have heart-to-hearts with a loved one, and dye our hair whatever color we choose. But we can also sometimes get stuck in our heads, make decisions in the heat of the moment, or even hurt our friends and family emotionally. These things make us uniquely human, too.

One of the greatest things about counseling, I’ve found, is that it can be a choose your own adventure where, together, we work on your own therapeutic goals to get to your most authentic self.  Counseling had such a positive impact on my life I decided to become a counselor myself, so I can help others move forward in their lives just as my own counselor helped me to do.

We are all unique and need something a little different from counseling, so I use a person-centered approach where clients are the experts of their own lives and I’m here to support them as best I can. I also utilize a systems framework, recognizing we are all members of many systems (partners, peers, friends, community) and do not live life in a bubble. Another concept central to my style of counseling is an emphasis on stories; the stories we tell ourselves, the stories society tells us about ourselves, and the stories that make us us. I am genuinely interested in your personal story and am honored you’re willing to share it with me.

Something else unique to humans is the ability to laugh; humor can absolutely be an integral part of healing, and wherever appropriate, I may use humor in session (though there are no guarantees you’ll actually think I’m funny).
